BCS Verbs, Nouns and Cases
This text focuses on perfective and imperfective verbs, nouns and case declension showing you how to bring your knowledge together so that you can master Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian with confidence.
For more advanced learners of Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian (BCS), simply doing language exercises and grammar drills is not enough. What is the point of a language if, after all, you cannot articulate your thoughts in meaningful sentences? That is why I share these documents with you.
About Verbs
The first one focuses on case government. Inside, you will find three tabs with a list of verbs and prepositions. You will also find a detailed explanation of how to use the document, along with guidance on combining verbs with different prepositions and nouns.
At the same time, you will learn how the seven cases function and how to apply them. Sometimes, the very same preposition requires different grammatical cases depending on the verb it accompanies.
The age-old question concerns imperfective and perfective verbs. This is something we work on together in our lessons, and it is one of the specific features common to Slavic languages in general.
The logic behind the imperfective vs. perfective distinction is a whole ocean in itself. However, the second document is here to help you by presenting verbal pairs. Once you are familiar with this grammatical, linguistic, logical, and cultural pattern, the document will make it easier and faster for you to express yourself.
One More Point
The third document is not about verbs. Once, my learner asked me to explain ‘kao’, ‘kao da’ and ‘kao što’ in BCS. I must admit that I like the explanation I gave, which is why I want you to have this document as well. Enjoy, and good luck!
